Miami Open Tennis Championship Photography 2015

After taking the red eye from LA to Miami and arriving at 7 am in the morning, I headed straight to Crandon Park, in an attempt to fight off the fatigue that was inevitably going to take over my day. It was all happening on Key Biscane and the new colours of sponsors Itau made the tired Crandon Park complex look almost new. I always stay with very old and dear friends in Miami, so it is one of my favourite tournaments, because it is such fun, on court and off. This year was no exception! Miami always claims to be the fifth Grand Slam and this year’s tournament certainly lived up to that claim. There were outstanding fields for both the mens and women’s trophies and apart from a few dull days in the middle of the tournament, it was hot and humid every day, with lots of awesome sunsets and beautiful late afternoon light.

BNP Paribas Open Indian Wells Championship 2015

Ray and I both went to Indian Wells as we had various client shoots to do as well as to capture the action at the first ATP 1000 of the year and an important WTA Premier event. We ended up sharing a room at the Holiday Inn Express which was fun (a whole lot more fun after I had bought some ear plugs to protect me from Ray’s snoring!) and we set about shooting what turned out to be a cracking event. The light in Indian Wells is extremely harsh as it is in the desert and so the whole day apart from the magic hour before the sun goes down, provides huge photographic challenges, especially as an increasing number of players wear hats and peaks.

Brisbane International Tennis Tournament 2015

It was a great start for the company to be the official photographers at the Brisbane International. Thank you to Dan Glass for having the faith in our abilities and for giving us a go! It was a fantastic tournament, Roger Federer won the men’s event and also celebrated his 1000th ATP Tour win. Maria Sharapova won the women’s event and looked fantastic for the shoot we did in the City Botanic Gardens with the trophy. She was also a great sport when she went with Kei Nishikori to cuddle the koalas. As well as capturing Roger with the giant one thousand sign and the trophy on centre court, we also went to Tangalooma to shoot Roger feeding dolphins. It was almost dark when Roger hit the water, but Juergen captured some fantastic images of him feeding the dolphins as they swam round him. Lucas was also deep in the off court action and had a great shoot with Dominika Cibulkova making ice cream at Nitrogenie.
